Cabin gable elevation with wood-look composition siding

Engineered wood composition siding

Real wood grain, friendlier budget

Engineered composition lap and panel siding with sealed cut edges and correct fastening — the warm look of wood with far better moisture and impact resistance.

Composition siding is the middle ground we recommend most often when the budget matters but the house still needs to look custom. It carries a real wood grain, takes paint or stain well, and resists moisture and impact far better than natural cedar or pine lap. The installation details — sealed cut edges, correct nail pattern, flashed openings — are what decide whether it lasts.

Hillside residence with wood-look siding and trim

Wood look without the maintenance bill

Engineered composition is manufactured to a consistent thickness and grain, so courses lay flat and lines stay straight across a long wall. Unlike natural wood it doesn't cup, split at the fasteners, or bleed knots through the paint.

  • Engineered wood lap and panel siding
  • Consistent grain and thickness for straight course lines
  • Available in board-and-batten and shake profiles
  • Paint or stain finish in the color you pick

The details that make it last

Every field cut gets sealed before it goes on the wall — that raw edge is the single most common failure point on composition siding. Fastener spacing and depth follow the manufacturer's pattern, and openings are flashed and tied into the house wrap.

  • Sealed cut edges on every field cut
  • Manufacturer fastening pattern and depth
  • Integrated house wrap and flashed openings
  • Correct clearance at grade, roofs, and decks

Trim and batten details

Corner boards, window and door casing, batten rhythm, and frieze detailing get planned with the elevation rather than added at the end. A modest siding budget still looks custom when the trim is right.

  • Matching corner boards and window casing
  • Board-and-batten layout planned to openings
  • Soffit, fascia, and frieze detailing
  • Field paint or stain with touch-up at walkthrough
